I often find myself can't decide which way of picking I might take. In the case of  "The Maid Of Mt. Kisco", which I'm learning by myself now. My question is Bar 2 of B part "G2BG DGBG".  Playing downstroke will be fit for low D, I think. But I'm curious to know most people play how. Playing upstroke sound more smoth and easy way for play fast. Which do you think better ?

Please forgive me to vote other question by replying by myself. In the case of  "The Merry Blacksmith", I'm wondering if I mihgt play endnote of seventh Bar of A and B part "ABde faec" downstroke or not. Playing open note of 1st string (e) downstroke and then 4th fret of 2nd string (c#) by picking as same (downstroke) is seems so natural to me. But playing c# upstroke seems to make accent of the note and make the tune clearly, also. Which way of picking you take?

I think play downstroke is best.

I always alternate in reels .Its more efficent .Its hard at the start but you'll get used to it.

Thank you for replying.

I try to alternating picking. It's easy!

But it's slightly difficult to crossing strings from low to high than high to low by alternating way.
