Mick has got one of the great voices for IT singing and was one of the first banjo players I heard in this style, way back when in the 70s. In the early 90s, he and Seamus Egan were the guest artists at the Alaska Folk Festival in Juneau, and I was pleased to be present for the concerts they gave, but even more so for the sessions that they warmly attended. Seamus was a bit more reserved, but Mick was quite a warm and gracious fellow, a real joy of a person to experience personally, as well as to hear him sing and play. His discography on his website is truly amazing... I knew he was involved in a lot of projects over the years, a few of which I experienced (such as The Irish Tradition concerts with Billie McComiskey et al), but I had no idea how many (hundreds?) he has actually contributed to in a major way. Congrats to him for the NH award.... well deserved.
