UPDATE: Thursday Oct 06th/11

Well I found a group tonight playing good ol' fashion Irish music.  They were playing at a coffee house, got to hear them, and then talked with a couple of members.

The group consisted of Tenor Banjo, Mandolin, Piano Accordion, 2 Uilleann pipes, Fiddle, and Guitar.  A couple of players doubled on instruments.  It was great, they were great.  I'm in LOVE!!!

Just waiting for the "leader" of the group to send me some stuff, and as the Character Ralph Cramdon from the Honey Honeymooners used to say, AWAY WE GO!!!!!

So far,

here in Thunder Bay Ontario Canada the closest thing we have to an "Irish" band is Flipper Flanagan's Flat Footed Four.  they play a mixed genre of music such as: bluegrass, pop, Irish, and what I like to call "ditties".  They are a well tightly knitted band and a joy to hear and watch.  Flipper Flanagan's Flat footed Four

I have yet, though, to find an Irish session in this city.  There are Bluegrass and Old Time music, Country music, but no Irish as of yet.  Hoping to change this, no matter how small we are.

Update:  It looks like we have one, checking it out on Thursday evening.

Thunder Bay is rich in cultural music and dancing, jazz -Scottish -Italian -Finnish, and such.  And the only time I hear of anything resembling Irish music is on St. Patrick's Day, and yes it is usually Flipper Flanagan's playing.

So how 'bout if folks, anyone in Thunder Bay interested in learning, helping others to learn good ol' fashioned Irish folk music?

If so, contact me through my TradConnect page.  Just click my picture there in the corner.
