"Andy's current prices on Gold Tones are probably as good a deal as you will get. 17-fret instruments tend to make strong prices second-hand, especially ones in that sort of price/quality range. Spend some time on ebay and you'll see what I…"

"I play in a banjo club with many brands with Resonator banjos. I believe the IT 250 with out a resonator can  hold it's own with any of them. Just my opinion, I also have a 1930 Vega and my comparison between them is that the Gold…"

Anyone know of any second-hand SS250's or IT250's for sale?

Hi all, I'm looking to get my filthy paws on a short-scale GoldTone, but having just shelled out on a 1984 Paul Doyle banjola, cash is in fairly short supply at the moment so I'm looking at going second-hand if anyone knows of any up for grabs?....  (Ireland)Cheers.See More

"I have the IT250R and it has good volume (if I am having a bad day the session may think it is too loud). I have changed the head to a Fiberskyn. I think it gives it a more mellow sound."

"I don't presently have a Gold Tone tenor, but I do have a 19-fret WL250 which is pretty much the same instrument as the IT250, apart from the 5-string neck and No-Knot tailpiece. I keep it tuned aDADE so I can flat-pick in sessions ( the 1st,…"

"I've had an IT250 (no resonator) for about 6 months. It is the fourth Gold Tone banjo I have owned. My experience in a session is that a banjo tone pretty much comes through regardless of the volume of the rest of the instruments. I have only…"

SS250R or IT250R?

Hi all,I'm seriously looking at a short-scale Gold Tone, and I've narrowed it down to the SS250R or the IT250R (I like the idea of the removable resonator). The problem is I'll be buying 'blind' so I'm looking for opinions....I've been doing a bit of research (particularly with Andy Banjo) and I'm aware that the SS is louder and punchier than the IT.  I feel that the softer tone of the IT may suit my style of play and personal preference more, and I'm leaning towards it at the moment...I intend…See More
